Middle Kids / The Shacks – The Basement, Columbus, OH

Austrailia natives, Middle Kids, are currently on their US tour and had one of their first stops last night at The Basement in Columbus, OH.  They are touring the US with opening band The Shacks. The Shacks lead singer Shannon Wise is something special, with a wispy voice as soft and elegant as a daisy’s petals. Their music is a perfect blend of The Zombies meets Tame Impala and The Velvet Underground. Dream infused indie-rock scattered with soul bending guitar solos which sounds influenced by 60’s Brittish rock. It’s all covered in dazzling waves of reverb, the end result is elegantly haunting.

Middle Kids Live in Columbus, OH at The Basement

As The Shacks left the stage Middle Kids started to prep their gear and get ready to give one of the best intimate performances in recent memory. Their first LP, “Lost Kids” was just released and has been met with critical acclaim, rightfully so. It’s such an accomplished and complete work. A rightful blend of alternative and punk rock is masked by Hannah Cameron’s mesmerizing voice.

Camera in hand, I eagerly awaited one of my current favorite bands to take the stage.  They played throughout their musical library, from their breakout song “Edge of Town” to one of my personal favorites “Don’t Be Hiding”, Middle Kids were able to show their perfect sense of melody and set The Basement ablaze. Check out the rest of Middle Kid’s upcoming US tour dates below as well as our full photo recap of their show!
