Lake Street Dive at Kemba Live!

On a vibrant, crisp September evening in Columbus, Lake Street Dive took the stage at Kemba Live! for the last outdoor show of the season.

The venue, known for its atmosphere and excellent acoustics, was packed with fans eager to take in the band’s unique blend of Jazz, soul, and pop. Delivering energy and nostalgia, their performance was both charming and heartwarming. Positive energy flowed through the upbeat and somber tempos of their catalog of music alike.

The crowd cheered, the band entered the stage, and their latest hit, “Good Together,” echoed through the venue. The title of this song, released only 3 months ago, embodied the vibe of the entire night’s performance. Lead vocalist Rachel Price’s voice soared, smooth and powerful, drawing everyone into the vibe. Her effortless charisma set the tone for the night, as she encouraged the audience to sing along, dance, and let loose. If they were reluctant, it did not matter. She would do it all herself on stage. But, it was impossible not to get swept up in the joy radiating from the stage that turned the venue into a dance floor.

The setlist was a delightful mix of new tracks and beloved classics. Songs like “Good Kisser” and “You Go Down Smooth” had everyone swaying, the catchy melodies weaving through the crowd like a warm breeze. They played several of their most relevant songs, and added a twist to a few cover songs like Shania Twain’s “Still the One”, and Hall and Oats, “Rich Girl”. Each note was punctuated by the band’s musicianship. Bassist Bridget Kearney’s grooves and drummer Mike Calabrese’s tight rhythms accompanied the soaring brass arrangements that defines Lake Street Dive’s sound.

The band’s chemistry made it clear that it is not just about the music; it’s about the camaraderie and joy they bring to each performance. Fortunately, the stage was well lit and decorated. No matter the seat you found on the lawn, or the spot you defended up against the railing, you had a great view of how the band came together. They turned venue into a dance floor. The band clearly relished these moments, their smiles lighting up the stage and enhancing the overall experience. Their sense of community spilled over into the audience, with strangers sharing smiles and laughter throughout the night.This allowed for a powerful connection, turning the venue into a cozy living room where everyone felt like they belonged.

Lake Street Dive had woven a spell over Columbus. Their blend of talent, charm, and pure joy created an unforgettable night. it was the unity from the vocals, the musicians, and the fans that made it all good together. It was a reminder of the magic of live music and the connections it fosters—a truly remarkable evening that will linger in the hearts of those who were lucky enough to be there.
